The dilemma for Zimbabwean women artists
Women in Zimbabwe struggle to be heard, particularly when it comes to being an artist.
In this article, Nothando Chiwanga, who is currently exhibiting at the National Gallery, speaks about the roles that women are expected to have in the Southern African country. The exhibition, entitled "We should all be human", features textiles, scuplture, installations and visual art from 21 female artists that has been on show since International Women's Day in March.
Women in Zimbabwe are often expected to take a traditional path - marriage, children and domesticity - and this show is aimed at encouraging young artists to continue to make art despite these pressures. You can see some of the work on display and read the article about the exhibition on this link.
