Shetland in the winter

Being so far North is an Adventure for sure, and one that is filled with lovely views.

While the rest of the UK is covered with snow and ice we have had a light smattering of the white stuff in Yell. It doesn't lie long and this morning - Saturday - it has all gone. But the island of Fetlar is absolutely white still.

The views from home in Gutcher is across Bluemull Sound to Unst and Fetlar. Our ferries criss-cross the Sound and, at this time of year, the sun rises behind Unst and sets right in front of home. Birds and seals in the harbour complete the picture.  It all makes for a peaceful and yet quietly busy scene. At the moment the dawning of the day is beautiful; here is a picture to share our view as the sun rises slowly and everything starts to stir. It promises to be a lovely day northwards of 60 degrees latitude. Stay warm everyone!
