Wedding dresses at the Shetland Museum
A couple of weeks ago the Shetland Museum opened its newest exhibition: wedding dress through the years.
This particular show is interesting not just from the clothes on display but also for the text that goes with the garments. The stories of the people who wore the clothes, the fashions of the day, retailing and dress-making, 19th Century garment construction... It is all here.
There are dresses, Paisley shawls and some wonderful waistcoats, most of which were made in the islands, showing the way people have dressed for the last 250 years. Many of these pieces have never been on display before.
From this day forward runs until 23rd March at Da Gadderie, Shetland Museum and Archives.
