Weaving Songs

Donald Murray's newest book of prose and poetry was published last year and I have just picked up our copy at Shetland Times bookshop. The book is beautiful, full of images and imagery with photographs by Carol Ann Peacock and  Donald's evocative words.

Weaving Songs appeals to me on all sorts of levels. Rhythmic poetry, music and textiles, and of course, as a singer, poetry is a real passion. The book speaks volumes about memory and the traditions of weave in the Hebrides, particularly Harris where traditional weave is still created.

My favourite poem from the book is "If this island...". If you want to pick a favourite, email us and make an appointment to use the library. Weaving Songs will be available for reference in Sellafirth.
