Weavers we know...Melanie Venes

Melanie was the person who taught me how to weave at a wonderfully inspirational set of workshops in the Handweaver's Studio when it was in the old premises. We then asked Melanie to come up to Shetland to teach and to work with us on a project in a local school to create curtains for the new building. What a great teacher and beautiful designs too. I remember her use of the Theo Moorman technique in our project which was a whole new take on weave for me!

Melanie runs her own studio - Twill and Knot - from Norfolk, and has worked for commissions including for BBC Television. The pieces she wove for the cover of Anne Frank's diary were amazing, and I cannot remember how many pieces were made for the shooting of the film, some complete with dirty marks. We are very proud to know her and her meticulous craft.
