Up Helly Aa

It is Lerwick Up Helly Aa this week, the annual fire festival complete with Vikings and squads in costume.

The spectacle is amazing. Fiery torches carried by bearded Vikings make their way through the town and Shetland grinds to a halt for a couple of days of revellery in the middle of the winter. In fact, it is taken so seriously that even the fire service on Bressay has been affected this year.

We are very pleased to have been part of the celebrations this time around. A few months ago, we had a top secret commission to do with Up Helly Aa. I shall tell you all about it next week. For the moment, it is to be kept under wraps..
