All about Turkish stockings

The most wonderful book has arrived to join the gathering throng in the library. Knitted stockings from Turkish villages is a delightful collection of patterns and colours showing... well, let's just say it does what it says on the tin.

Full of ideas and designs to delight the eye of anyone who likes such things, it is the text that enchants just as much. "During the 24 hours of the day, the constantly changing colours, mountains..., trees and flowers... awaken the artistic sense in the child, causing him to love and find his personality through them." Who couldn't love that sentence and sentiment taken from the introduction?

And who knew that stockings had so many functions?! They identify the village and community of the wearer, explain social and cultural situation, can be used as valuable presents or to express certain demands, have a magical element to them, and express environmental events and explore mythology. Isn't that a lot for a pair of socks to do?

This lovely book is available to read in the library at the studio. To use the library, contact us and make an appointment. We do not run a lending library but we love having visitors to explore what books we have and we will give you tea or coffee while you read.
