The Fabric of Tibet

A few months ago we helped crowdfund a book of paintings and drawings about Tibetan costume. Our copy of the book has just arrived!

In 1982 Anne Jennings Brown, a British artist, travelled to Dharamsala in India, home to the Tibetan exile community, and set out to record Tibetan dress and methods of production. This book is a compilation of the art that Anne created and forms an invaluable document detailing the cultural heritage of Tibetans.

The book is full of charming illustration including, apparently, pictures of recognisable family members in the community. There are drawings of individual jewellery pieces - earrings, necklaces and bangles - as well as photographs and text describing the images and how life is lived in the region. The pack is accompanied by a map of Tibet painted by Anne, and postcards of some of the illustrations. This is a lovely book which it is a real pleasure to read. Please ask if you would like to see it.
