Greetings from Thailand
Hello, dear readers, from a very sunny and hot Bangkok!
We are here for just over a week taking the opportunity, before the summer hits and the tourist season in Shetland starts, to learn a bit more about Thailand and the textiles of this fascinating country. I have never been to Thailand before and there is so much to look at, listen to and absorb that the few days we have is just enough to briefly skim the surface of this part of the world which has been so important in terms of textiles.
Unfortunately, this being the most inopportune moment, the laptop is misbehaving and I cannot upload pictures. I shall do that when we are back in the UK next week. But since being here we have visited the Jim Thompson House and the library next door which has an interesting selection of books about the textiles, art and craft of the world, bought a few good pieces of silk weaving, and seen some beautiful weaving from all over Asia. There is plenty to tell and to get excited about!
