Textile tours
I am running a textile tour this week and we have found some very interesting things...
Every one of the four day tours that we offer each year gives us an opportunity to learn something more about the industry in Shetland and we do get to meet some engaging characters. This week we have been to a knitwear factory or two, two museums, the Wool Brokers, driven 208 miles, eaten lots of cake, had fresh fish and chips, seen knitting and weaving and spinning, looked at Fair Isle knitwear, done some shopping and seen every kind of weather that Shetland has to offer in the summer, and that was just half of the trip. Today is a day for the North Isles and community hall suppers, and tomorrow is the Far North of Eshaness and Hillswick.
The group is also interesting. Three from Ireland and three from Germany. Good companions for long drives and chatting to about knitting and weaving, spinning, scenery, geology and history. With a little bit of dialect singing thrown into the mix, this is a fun trip, and with another planned next week, it is a busy month for visitors!
