The Shetland Textile Museum
Shetland's Textile Museum opens this in a week's time and this year the exhibition looks like a corker!
The Textile Museum is in Lerwick and is housed in the Böd of Gremista. This year there are three shows and the competition entry, as usual; weaving on the ground floor which has blankets and clothing from Shetland woven fabrics, and some of our textiles on display, the Shetland College students' work upstairs, and a wonderful exhibition of Fair Isle as it celebrates the past 150 years of its famous patterning. I got a bit of a sneak preview this week and can thoroughly recommend a visit.
The competition this year is neckwear. Anyone can join in and here are the details. The competition closes on June 1st.
Along with the Textile Museum opening, the summer season has now started and the heritage centres and museums across the islands will soon all be open. There are lots - have a look at http://www.shetlandheritageassociation.com for more information.
