Japanese Bamboo Art
A graduate from Tokyo's Universty of the Arts, Tanabe Chikuunsai IV went on to train at the craft training center in Beppu and then returned home to work with his father on traditional bamboo craft.
Now the artist creates huge woven sculptures, as well continuing the family tradition of crafting utensils, and you can see some of the sculptures on this page. A new exhibition of the artist's work opens in November this year at the Baur Foundation in Geneva. The video below shows the installation of a site-specific piece at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco in 2019.
