Shetland Women's Institutes

Today was the opening of an exhibition for, by and about the Shetland branches of the Scottish Women's Institute.

The exhibition is on at the Shetland Museum for a month or so more, and the breadth of material that is on display is amazing. As the SWI celebrates its centenary the show takes in the work of the organisation during and after the War as well as the various shows that have been held across the islands over the last hundred years. I love the programme of a show in Mid Yell which has a category for Best Baby in Show with entrants being "Under six months", "Over six months to a year", etc! How the times have changed.

For a fascinating glimpse of social history head over to the Shetland Museum's Da Gadderie space and see craft, letters, programmes, photographs, art, music and the like. For more information about the SWI have a look at their website.
