Changes in the studio

This week we have been busy at the studio. In spite of the cold weather it has been an exciting and fulfilling week!

As you will know if you are a regular reader of the blog we have a new shop area and the finishing touches are all done. (Thanks for all the help and advice, Maggie and Shona, plus all the support and encouragement from friends on social media.) But the new area meant that things in the building had to move around so that we have room for workshops and exhibitions. That is what we have been doing; moving the textile collection into one room and storing it properly, shifting tables so that we have room for workshops and groups to sit together, setting up a showroom for special exhibitions, moving the library so that it is more easily accessible, and generally making more room so that the studio looks fresh and works as it should in the summer.

We also have a new member of staff. Alexa Fitzgibbon started to work this week on Alvin-the-loom and has been learning by teaching herself to weave. We are looking forward very much to working with Alexa. Welcome to the team, Ms Fizgibbon!

The summer visitor season starts in a week or so and it is shaping up to be a Very Busy Season. The summer tours are all full and the first cruise ship has already been in Lerwick. Thank goodness the studio is now ready for it. Onwards and upwards!
