The Shetland Museum and Archive Store
The Shetland Museum has an amazing collection of textiles on display.
But hidden away is the fantastic collection of weave from the Adies of
Voe company.
The Store is a little way out of town, hidden on a
small industrial estate. It is housed in a corrugated iron building
which hides the delights that are waiting to be discovered. The easiest
way to get access to the collections is to contact the Museum and ask to
visit the Store.
Inside and upstairs is the work area and it was here that I spent a wonderful afternoon being blown away by colour that I had not seen in Shetland weave before. To give you an idea, here are some pictures of what I found.
Thanks to the enthusiastic staff
at the Archive Store who helped us out, especially curator Carol
Christiansen. What an eye-opener this visit has been.
