Spider silk anyone?

While I was away last week, I managed to get to see the Golden Spider Silk cape and shawl at the V&A in London. What an amazing idea, beautifully displayed to show off the incredible deep golden colour of the pieces. There is also a film showing the making of the pieces, some books and a beautiful piece of silk weave from Madagascar too. I had no idea that there has been a silk industry in the island for a few centuries, and what beautiful work it is.

I have added the catalogue to the reference library at ASF Shetland. The library is open to the public for research and information. Please contact Andy on 07900 430 429 if you would like to access the collection.
