Southern Crossings Opera

A new chamber opera will premiere in New York in June.

Southern Crossings takes place in 1836; a recollection of a dinner with Charles Darwin, astronomer John Herschel and his wife, Margaret, and two former enslaved people, January and Leah. Margaret recalls the less-than-successful meal while January and Leah speak together about what they had overheard that evening: the fantastic animals they have never seen and the people abducted from Tierra del Fuego. The story presents fears and doubts about the demands of science, and what price and demands scientific discovery might place upon the world.

The opera website is here and the Facebook page is here.
