The Southern Alps in winter

One of the joys of living on the Coast is the beautiful (and plentiful) scenic views all year round.

The Southern Alps stretch the length of the South Island and separate the east and west climactically, politically and geographically. They are an impressive sight at any time of year but this morning they are spectacular. Recent and heavy snowfall on the mountains has made them appear much closer and they are shining white. At sunset the snow turns pink. Perhaps this is the inspiration for a new cloth?!
