Singing for everybody

At the beginning of February, I flew down to Glasgow to take part in a song weekend as part of Celtic Connections. We sang in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, filling the spaces up with music and harmony from many different lands.

The song workshops were led by experienced singing leaders including Alison Burns, Corrina Hewat and the Close Shave Barbershop Chorus. We learnt and sang songs from Europe, Africa and Asia, and I can thoroughly recommend the weekend for anyone interested in singing with like-minded folk.

For anyone who has not been to Kelvingrove, pay a visit to the gallery where there are beautiful paintings by the Glasgow Boys and a good collection of craft. If you get a chance, listen to the massive organ in one of the regular recitals that fill the main hall with powerful sound.
