The Shanghai Museum
Our almost-first stop in Shanghai was the Shanghai Museum.
We wanted to see the gallery of costume and adornments from the "Chinese Minority Nationalities" and we weren't disappointed. Beautiful clothes, colourful and bright, with hand-stitched embroidery and decoration, and very well-displayed so that it was easy to see and photograph.
My favourite was a beautiful outfit with feather trim and amazing embroidery, pictured on the right, but there were plenty of things that I would have been just as happy with, amongst them masks from across the country.
Here are a few of the displays and where it was possible I tried to get the text so you can see the who, what, where and when of the pieces. If you ever get the chance to see the museum, take it. Wonderful! And if you would like to see more, please email and I can send you the pictures I took.
