Sectarian Armour by John Kindness
This detailed and beautifully made piece of armour was created in the shape of a denim jacket - 'the uniform of the Belfast hard man' in the words of the artist - in 1994, and is made from steel and brass, with etched details.
On the front of the armour are symbols that define the two sides of the conflict in Northern Ireland, but it is on the back that the most powerful imagery is shown. A funeral, separated by a metal hinge down the centre, shows on one half a Loyalist aspect and on the other a Provisional IRA side. A powerful comment on The Troubles that you can read about here on the IWM website.
