The Scottish love of colour
The Lightbox, Woking, and the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich, are hosting Scottish artworks from the Ingram and Fleming Collections.
Textiles, tweed in particular, are very much in evidence in the pieces, and not only in the subject matter. The Scottish love of colour comes through from tartan and tweed. John Knox, the 19th Century landscape painter was the son of a yarn merchant and Anne Redpath was the daughter of a tweed designer. It is no wonder that the colourists fell so passionately in love with fauvism!
