A Sandison's blanket

Sandison's blanket in bright yellow, red and black. Sandison's blanket in bright yellow, red and black.

A new piece of Shetland's weave history has been added to the collection in Sellafirth: a blanket from Sandisons.

The labels, one unfortuntely damaged, show where the piece was made and sold. The labels, one unfortuntely damaged, show where the piece was made and sold.

The blanket is bright yellow, red and black in distinctive Shetland wool and has a set of labels showing it was handwoven in Scotland, that it is Shetland wool, and was made for Edinburgh House in Sarasota! In fact, this piece was purchased from the USA where it was imported for this enterprising business which sold Scottish products. You can see this piece in the collection. Just ask us when you come in.

We are looking for more Shetland weaving, especially tweed. If you have any, or know of any, please get in touch. We would be delighted to have any information, no matter how insignificant it seems.
