Photographs of the Sami

Regular readers of this blog may remember that I was in Iceland and Greenland last year where I saw the stunning Weather Diaries exhibition. 

A chance email reminded me to look again at the duo, Copper & Gorfer, who undertook that project. This email pointed to pictures of Sami people photographed over the last hundred years. The colours and costumes in the pictures were what reminded me of the show in Iceland. 

The Cooper & Gorfer website has some beautiful pictures of their latest endeavour including this one on the left; photographs of people in Northwest Argentina. Stylish, colourful recreations of famous paintings and poignant portraits which comment on migration, politics and colonialisation. 

The book of the Weather Diaries is in the studio in Yell for visitors to look at. This new book will be with us in a few weeks. Please ask us if you would like to see either.
