RESEO - the conference

This weekend we are in Helsinki for the RESEO conference on the social aspects of opera and dance.

RESEO is a network of people and organsiations who work in opera and dance education. The network meets twice a year for conferences and this one has been organised to look at the ways in which the arts benefit wellbeing and health as well as the social aspects of life.

It has already been an interesting event even though it has only been an afternoon. Presentations from the Finnish National Opera and Ballet House heads, the RESEO steering group committee and from the co-directors of the group all led us easily into an afternoon session of workshops with Streetwise Opera who use the art form with homeless people in England. A brilliant and highly successful time followed by excellent salads for dinner, lively chat about the role of the arts in looking after people, and the ballet. All kindly hosted and sponsored by the Opera House along with RESEO.I have met producers from Serbia and England, educators from Wales and Scotland, and remade acquaintance with friends from courses attended over the years. Ideas are flowing and enthusiasm is high.

More, I am sure, will follow...
