The Red Dress

In 2009, British artist Kirstie Macleod started a beautiful embroidery project.

Using a red dress as a canvas, the artist sent it around the world to be embroidered by women from many different backgrounds over ten years, supported by funding from the British Council. Refugees, artists, people living in poverty and in upmarket studios, women from Palestine, Japan, UK, South Africa, Kenya, Peru, all have inscribed their stories on the garment, and all were paid for their work.

To find out more about this head over to the artist's website dedicated to the project, and to see more of Kirstie's work follow this link
