The choral music of the Cook Islands
The island of Rarotonga is where the majority of Cook Islanders live and where most visitors go to experience the islands and its musical culture.
Colonisation of the islands brought Christianity and church hymns and harmonies and these were assimilated into the local music. This has led to a unique form of singing that still is practised today. You can hear some of this amazing sound on the Spotify player below, or on this link, and you can read more here. It is possible to visit the churchesto experience the music too.
