Dyeing plywood

Here is an interesting and unexpected offshoot to one firm's textile dyeing operation - plywood veneers.

Japanese designer Kazuya Koike has been working with a textile producing company which makes dyed synthetic fabrics to create a unique furniture series. By bleaching plywood and applying dyes, the grain of the wood shows up clearly and, when cut up and made into veneer strips, the resulting finish is striking. What an ingenious idea! Thanks to our friends over at deisgnboom.com for the heads up.
