A Just Intonation

A new recording of Arvo Pärt's Stabat Mater is about to be released thanks to Kickstarter funding.

Using the money from the campaign, The Goeyvaerts String Trio created a new version of the piece using a tuning system called Just Intonation which in essence means that notes are more purely related to each other than the way in which our instruments are tuned in the West. (If you are really interested, have a look at this website which goes into some detail and has some very useful audio files to listen to.) But for me the proof of the pudding is definitely in the eating and this new recording sounds amazing, if the samples on YouTube are anything to go by. Perhaps the musical world is moving back to this more pure sound?
