On the nature of knots

In the Times Higher last week, there was an interesting call for research - the nature of knots! It appears that science is now leaning towards space and time being knotty, nature tying itself in knots,... I could go on but you get the picture. I reckon the Shetland seafaring folk could teach people a thing or two about knots. If you are in Unst this summer, go to the Heritage Centre (with its fabulous collection of lace knit and weave), and to the Boat Haven. In the Boat Haven, there is a beautiful handmade sailor's bag with the most amazing knot finishing it off. I will look for a picture and post it.
