New folk at the studio

We have two new people in our team at GlobalYell. Welcome Hannah and Alicja!

Both of our new members are joining us part-time to undertake the first part of our tweed research project supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project initially is looking at the tweeds of Shetland and where they were made. We hope to find some of the fabrics that were made yesteryear, and to speak to some of the weavers who were involved in the industry.

At this stage, the project is small. We simply want to find out what is out there and where these things are. But already we have had visits from weavers and people bringing in beautiful things to us to see. Yesterday Jim, a past weaver in Mossbank, came in with his wife to have a chat, and Ruth, a friend who has relations in the North, brought in a lovely scarf (pictured) which has a label unknown to us. (Perhaps someone out there knows more?)

We will keep you updated about progress of this project. If you happen to be passing through, pop in and say hi. We are always delighted to receive visitors.
