New Zealand

Our first few days of the beautiful city of Auckland have brought us many surprises, sounds and sights. Yesterday we went to the Art Gallery and the Museum. Ralph Hotere's beautiful colours and words made me happy and slightly moist-eyed...

A beautiful set of panels commissioned from Ralph Hotere to welcome visitors to the country at the airport. There is a Maori poem on the panels; beautiful and evocative.

I know very little about New Zealand and I am happy to say that I know a little more now. The Maori decorative arts and their idea of the connectedness of the world makes a lot more sense now that we have seen some of the pieces in the collections.

Pictures coming soon when I find a faster internet connection.
