New textile opportunities
The textile museum in Shetland is a fantastic resource and an amazing place to visit. We are very lucky to have a dedicated team of folk who run the museum simply because of their love for textiles and the islands. So, how about this for an exciting idea! All makers and artists are encouraged to submit new work which has not been shown before, in any media, any size, provided it fits the space at the Bod of Gremista or can endure the weather in the garden. The makers may include members of the Shetland Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, as well as total beginners of any age and level of artistic and textile competence.
The Exhibition will take place from 7th to 16th of October to include the Shetland Wool Week (8th-14th October) and there will be prizes in the following diverse categories:
- THE MOST POPULAR EXHIBIT
- THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED LACE
- THE BEST FAIR ISLE GARMENT
- THE MOST ORIGINAL FASHIONABLE GARMENT
- THE FITTEST TRIBUTE TO PAST AND PRESENT TEXTILE WORKERS
- THE BEST NATIVE SHETLAND ORGANIC WOOL EXHIBIT
- THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART ABOUT YARNS
- THE WITTIEST PIECE
- THE FUTURE SHETLAND TEXTILE MUSEUM EXHIBIT
- THE TECHNICALLY SUPERIOR PIECE
All entries are to be submitted by Monday 1st October and may be eligible for sale during the Exhibition and afterwards in the Gift Shop.

The Organisers are currently seeking businesses‘ support to fund the prizes, suggested minimum prize: £100.
