Our London neighbours

The South Bank Centre's summer showing is all about neighbours and neighbourhood.

Recycled window frames made into shelters for growing plants, all lovingly tended by volunteers and watered by Thames water lifted up from the river by an ingenious mechanism using foot power, decorate the riverside. Vegetables and herbs, edible flowers and upside-down rhubarb pots make good use of space and light.

The Hayward Gallery is hosting a show of outsider art. Opposite is a garden made of wheelbarrows and monumental sculptures created using green plastic plants. Graffiti and slogans complete the space and a spraypainted city is on the South Bank Centre wall.
