Article of the Week - number thirty eight - Shopping in Mysore
Edward Ardizzone was one of the artists chosen to create a lithograph for Lyons Teahouses and in 1955 he produced this print.
Depicting women and children in a fabric shop in Mysore, India, the lithograph was made to help reinvigorate the tired interiors of the Lyons Tearooms; a project that saw some of the most famous artists of the day enlisted for the task of making art for the walls. The intention behind the idea was not simply to help refresh the rooms but also were part of the "Art for All" movement that saw more art being made accessible to more people.
