The beauty of mosquitoes

This intriguing report about art from mosquitoes from the BBC got us thinking this week.

When mosquitoes are getting ready to mate, they synchronise their wing beats so as not to tangle up. Artists Robin Meier and Ali Momeni decided to use that fact to help people understand the beauty of the insects song. So they have experimented with wax, wire and microphones to record three of the beasties as they flap their wings. The results are a little bit eerie and strangely calming, I think. Whoever would have thought it?
