Studio goings-on

This week in the studio we have been weaving something new...

A few months back, a Very Special friend of the studio gave us some designs and, as part of our anniversary celebrations, we decided to put one of the designs on Alvin-the-loom. It has been a real learning curve for us because the design uses five colours in warp and weft and we have only ever woven with four, but nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes.

In spite of some trouble with selvedges which we solved finally and in spite of a few issues with Alvin being recalcitrant, it worked a treat! We wove three blankets at full width with five colours busying themselves to and fro, and then washed two of them to test what happens in the finishing. The loom worked perfectly after the first one and we have good selvedges into the bargain.

We still need to do a little more testing and some more washing, but here is a picture of the cloth on the loom and of the finished blanket. Don't they look great?

Thank you for our gift, Ms You-Know-Who-You-Are. We cannot wait to show them off!
