A new acquisition

The weave studio in Yell has a collection of textiles which we continue to add to, hanging them on the walls and storing them in drawers for reference.

Recently we have added our weavers' samples which we use to show people what we are doing here and I bought a beautiful piece of fabric last week which I am very excited about.

Edinburgh Weavers, the subject of a book in our library, wove fabrics that were modern and daring. Our new piece is by Marino Marini, an artist known for his horse sculptures and paintings. Woven in 1959, as far as I can tell, the piece, Cavallo, is rayon and cotton with details picked out in beautiful gold. It will be framed and hung for all to see.
