Medieval Tiles... in fabric!

There is a new artwork in the studio. Medieval Tiles is by textile artist Margaret Talbot.

Margaret used free-machine embroidery in this work, piecing together fragments of cloth to create small squares filled with fleur-de-lis, stars and flowers, before hand-painting and quilting the whole. I think it was created around 1998 because the piece is first shown on a website in 1999. The artist is fascinated by medieval history and has written a book about the symbols from churches in Suffolk and Norfolk which influenced this work. Medieval Tiles will be hung up in the studio over the winter ready for the summer opening next year. Do let us know if you would like to see it.
