Lauren Crawford - weave visitor 2008
Using luxury silks and woollen fibres, I design and produce 100% hand made fabrics to create unique appearances, textures and combinations of natural fibres. My unique fashion accessories are suitable for all occasions and include scarves, skinny scarves, collars, cuffs and wedding garters. My products are all designed and woven in my workshop in Scotland and are featured on my website.
I graduated in the Summer of 2007, gaining a 2/1 honours degree in Textile Design from Duncan of Jordanstone, College of Art and Design, Dundee.
On graduation, I accepted the position of Designer in Residence in the Art College. There, I continued to develop and hone my own creative skills, share my passion and encourage the continuing development of traditional and innovative weaving with 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students. I also took the first steps to establish my own business.
As the designer in residence, I was delighted to hear about the exciting opportunities at the Centre for Creative Industries. I arranged a 3 day visit to Shetland in February 2008.
Visiting the centre meant that I was able to experiment on the Centre's wide range of AVL computer dobby looms. As a result, I recently imported my very own AVL loom and established my own studio in Fife. I was also given the opportunity to present a weaving workshop, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I am now very keen to return to Shetland to develop my work, research new inspirations and make use of the fantastic facilities, equipment and materials available at the centre.
