John Piper - design

John Piper is one of the most well-known of the British designers pre- and post-Second World War. Now the library has a book about him.

John came to professional art late in his life, having originally been apprenticed to his father's law practice. He attended art school after failing the law examinations (and after the death of his father) and became enamoured of design rather than art itself. It is perhaps this aspect which lent his art a particular graphic quality and led to his creation of a unique style.

This new book is a slim volume, reprinted in 2016 from a 2013 edition by ACC Art Books. It is images of John's paintings, prints, and textile works, including the iconic Arundel, pictured here.
