Jane Alexander and the art of the review

South African artist, Jane Alexander, is having a show in New York. This wonderfully written review of the artist and her work is thoughtful and interesting, and comes courtesy of the Africa is a Country blog.

The artist uses animals and birds to evoke an otherworldliness, a strange place where everything is not as it seems and things are unsettled and uneasy. I will never forget seeing her Butcher Boys piece in Cape Town. It is spooky and eerie and very anxiety-making. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.
