Island identity - bound up with textiles

An archaeologist from Cambridge University's Material Culture Lab came up recently in a search on the internet when I was looking for "identity" and "textiles".

Ben Cartwright's work has been written about in this Creative Commons licensed piece and it makes for interesting reading, especially because of the fact that weaving is so important to islander's identity. I am sure there is a case for Shetland to be known for its weave as well as knitting. Anyone care to join me in that conviction?
