What counts as "handmade?"

An article about Etsy, the online marketplace, in the New York Times was posted on the WeaveTech forum this week.

The article, by Elizabeth Wayland Barber, professor of archaeology and linguistics, talks about the recent changes that Etsy has made to its selling policies. Now, as long as the pieces being sold are true to the authenticity of the "handmade" label, sellers can use outside shippers and manufacturing partners.
