Frances Richards
The artist Frances Richards is the subject of a retrospective at Swansea's Glynn Vivian Gallery.
Frances, who was married to fellow artist Ceri, trained in painting and became an illustrator, painter and printmaker, as well as creating embroideries and collages. The show focuses on these latter works as well as previously unseen drawings and monotypes, and it runs until 1st September. It looks fascinating.
The Victoria and Albert has some of Frances' work, including this piece entitled The Pianist. The design comes from a drawing by Ceri, and was worked by Frances in silk, nylon and cotton on a woollen ground.
Thank you to our correspondent from Swansea who sent this link in and the photographs of pieces in the exhibition. If anyone knows anything more about Frances that we can add to the blog, please let me know.
