The tiniest fossils

Patterns, patterns and more patterns. The world of the smallest fossils in the world features many.

Foraminifera are one celled "creatures" which make shells and those shells can be found as fossils. These tiny fossils tell us about the world at the time the shells were being made, and about conditions such as the world's climate. Now the collection of forams from the American Museum of Natural History is being digitised and the information used to predict the future of our planet. And as a by-product the beautiful shapes and patterns of foraminfera are being revealed, both inside and out. Have a look at the video below for an insight into these amazing life forms...
