A carpet of flowers

Every year millions of flowers are exchanged across the world. This year, to mark a special anniversary, 600,000 of them have been used to create a unique carpet in Belgium.

The carpet, the latest in an annual series in the Grand-Place in Brussels, celebrates 150 years of Japanese-Belgian friendship with depictions of birds, plants, flowers and fish in a rich and colourful display. The carpet was on display from the 12th to the 15th August, but you can still see it and the previous creations on the website of the organisation behind it.
