Fibonacci revisited

Anyone who has visited the studio recently will have seen the woven whirlpool, commissioned from the Ann Sutton Foundation. Now a kind friend has sent me a link to something else about Fibonacci, the mathematics behind the sculpture.

On last week's textile tour (this week we have Swedes, Germans and Austrians!) we visited the studio and were talking afterwards about the use of mathematics in textiles, in art and in music. One of our visitors has sent this link in to Gary Hayton who uses the sequence to knit sculptural forms and felted pieces like the one on the left (courtesy of his website). I think they are really fun and aesthetically pleasing too, don't you?
