Touring, coffee and cake

Although the air up here in the North is fast chilling and the days are shortening quickly, there is still plenty to do, including touring the isles.

These late summer tours are just as full as the rest but there is something extra in the light at this time of year. The sun is lower and a yellow tinge has crept into the landscape. Our heathers have nearly finished flowering but the red grass is starting to show its crimson colours, and the sky is filled with rainbows.

As everyone knows, tea and coffee plus a little bit of cake warms the cockles of the heart, and the textile tours run on those requisites. After all, what could be better than sitting in a warm room, eating one of Shetland's homebakes and drinking tea while watching a rain squall sweep across the sea, turning the offshore stacks misty and romantic? One of our friends-across-the-sea has sent us a link as to why we crave fancies (Greetings, Kelli!), but whatever the reason, here's to autumnal days and the things that warm us up while we are on tour of these beautiful islands!
