Discovering Textiles - An Iranian traditional textile village

The Iranian village of Rooyin has been designated as the first Traditional Textile Village in the country.

Rooyin, a settlement of around 800 houses, is in the north-eastern province of North Khorasan. It has just been declared unique for its heritage and traditions of textile making, which include dyeing, spinning and weaving, including "wrapper weaving".  Some of these activities can be seen in the photographs on this page and you can learn more about this fascinating region from the tourism page here. 

Footnote: Wrapper weaving seems to be some sort of silken bag for bed clothes but if anyone has more information please email it acrossso it can be shared on the blog.
